Union, N.J. (8/29/14) – Junior Kelsey King's first half goal proved to be the difference as #5 Ithaca College edged the Kean University women's soccer team by the final of 1-0 in the season opener for both.

King chipped a ball past her defender from just about 10 yards out that slipped past Kean's keeper near the left post for a 1-0 advantage 33 minutes and 38 seconds into the first half.

While the Bombers (1-0) may have been the only to score, it was a tale of two halves as Ithaca's offense surged in the first half (8-2 in shots) and the Cougars stepped up with several near misses in the second half (7-4 shots).  Ithaca held the advantage in corner shots (9-2).

Junior goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia earned the win stopping five shots in the win while junior keeper KC Nunez tallied three stops along with a team save in the loss.

Both teams will be back in action in the Cougar Classic on Saturday as Ithaca takes on Richard Stockton College at noon, followed by the Cougars and New York University at 3 p.m.
