Field Hockey Completes Overtime Comeback

PORTLAND, Maine (9/14/14) – Junior Marissa Robinson scored the game-winning overtime goal to cap the Kean University field hockey team's 2-1 comeback victory over St. Joseph's College of Maine on Sunday. Robinson (pictured left) also scored the Cougars' game-tying goal with seven minutes to go in regulation.

The win gives Kean a two-day, two-game sweep of teams from the state of Maine. The Cougars are now 5-2, while St. Joe's suffered its first loss of the year and is now 2-1.

Just two minutes into the matchup, Effie Drew scored for the Monks with an assist from Kelsey Dumond. St. Joe's kept the lead through the rest of the first half, but Kean dominated the stat sheets over the entire day. The Cougars limited St. Joe's to just five shots and only one in the final 38 minutes of the game. Kean also held a 12-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Despite its statistical edge, Kean was still looking for the tying goal as the clock slipped under seven minutes to go in the game. It was then that Krista LaMaina fed Robinson in front for the senior's game-tying score.

As the game went to overtime, Kean kept up the pressure. The Cougars earned two quick penalty corners and did not let the ball into their own zone at all in the extra period. Off the final corner, Robinson's initial shot was wide, but she picked up a pass from Bridgette Bottinelli after it hit a Monk stick and put it back into the cage for the game-winner. It was her ninth goal of the season and fourth in the last two games.

Katie DiCarlo earned the win in the cage for Kean and made three saves, while senior defender Stephanie Rios came up with a big defensive save in the game as well.

The Cougars will return home on Tuesday to take on Keystone College at 7:30 p.m.
