Women's Soccer Blanks Virginia Wesleyan

Newport News, Va. (9/6/14) – The Kean University women's soccer team picked up their second straight shutout as the Cougars edged Virginia Wesleyan University by the final of 1-0 in the Captains Classic.

Kean (3-1) capitalized on only one of two shots on goal on the day with what would turn out to be the game's lone goal as senior Sam Marchetti took a pass from sophomore Jordyn Bronsky and chipped it over the keeper from about 16 yards out.  That goal came in the 12th minute and from that point Kean had limited offensive opportunities.

Virginia Wesleyan (1-3) held the advantage in corners (12-0) and shots (13-4), but goalkeeper KC Nunez helped keep the Cougars in the game with seven saves on the afternoon.  The shutout is the second consecutive for the junior.

The Cougars will be right back in action as they remain in Virginia for day 2 of the Captains Classic, taking on Christopher Newport on Sunday at 3 p.m.
