Women's Basketball Edges Centenary, 61-55

Hackettstown, N.J. (1/3/15) – Junior Jazmine Davis netted a game-high 20 points as the Kean University women's basketball team pulled out their first win of 2015 by topping Centenary College, 61-55.

Tied at 49-all with just over five minutes to go in the contest, the Cougars (8-4) pulled out the win as rookie Najha Treadwell put Kean ahead for good with her 16th point of the day.  The Cyclones (2-9) came within one on two more occasions but buckets by Davis and senior AnnaRose Pierre gave the Cougars enough breathing room down the stretch to walk away with the win.

After a tight first half, Kean used an 8-2 run in the final six minutes to move out to a double-digit advantage.  Davis provided all the points in the run as she tallied 12 first-half points.  Treadwell added eight points and five rebounds in 11 minutes of action.

The Cougars led by as many as 15 early in the second period as a Treadwell jumper put the score at 39-24.  Trailing by 10 with 10 to go, Centenary started to chip away at the lead and used a 12-2 run to knot the game up at 49-49.

Treadwell finished with 16 points and eight rebounds while Pierre (pictured left) recorded eight points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Kean returns to NJAC action on Wednesday when they travel to William Paterson University for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
