WAYNE, N.J. (1/7/15) – Junior forward Jazmine Davis poured in 25 points for the Kean University women's basketball team on Wednesday but the Cougars fell in a hard-fought 78-71 matchup with William Paterson University.
Kean handily outshot Paterson 44 percent to 34 percent from the floor, but the Pioneers' margin of victory was made up by its six three-pointers and 20 points from the free-throw line. The Cougars were whistled for 22 personal fouls during the course of the game against just 16 for the home team.
Davis put up an impressive stat sheet, with eight rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal. She shot 11-of-16 for a 69 percent average from the field.
Freshman Najha Treadwell (pictured left) turned away four different WPU shots during the course of the game, and was second on the team with 14 points.
Brittany Harden led William Paterson with 21 points, five boards and five steals. Davis, of course, led all scorers and tied Treadwell's December 6 performance against Rutgers-Camden for the program's season-high total.
AnnaRose Pierre and Kenya Adams both had six rebounds for Kean; the Cougars dominated the paint, outscoring Paterson 48-28 down low. The visitors also racked up a remarkable eight blocks during the game.
The Cougars, who are now 8-5 and 3-3 in the NJAC, will return home for a league matchup with Rowan University at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
