Treadwell, Davis Post Double-Doubles for Women's Hoops in Win

UNION, N.J. (1/31/15) – Junior Jazmine Davis (12 pts / 15 rebs) and freshman Najha Treadwell (26 / 11) both posted double-doubles as the Kean University women's basketball team dominated Rutgers Camden in a 68-52 win. The matchup was tied at halftime but the Cougars ran roughshod over the Raptors in the second.

Jaquetta Owens (pictured left) stole the ball three times and scored seven points in the opening seven minutes of the game. The point guard also assisted every other Cougar field goal during that time – four in all – and added a block for good measure.

Treadwell also played well for Kean in the first minutes, shooting 5-for-7 from the floor and leading the team in rebounding.

Camden crept to within one score with nine minutes to go, but Shanice Jones' nifty move freed her up for a lay-in that pushed the Cougar lead back to five.

But with three minutes to go in the half, Camden got all the way back and took a 26-25 lead. Treadwell sank two free throws to put Kean back ahead in the final minute, and the Scarlet Raptors got one on the other end to send the teams to the locker rooms knotted up at 27.

Right at the start of the second, Davis earned a layup and then a steal and assist to put Kean up four. The Cougars scored the first six points of half.

With 16 minutes to go, AnnaRose Pierre completed an and-1 play to put Kean up seven.

The Cougars continued to pad their lead, going up by 12 after Treadwell's layup with 12 minutes to go. The freshman added an acrobatic tip-in on the next possession to push the advantage to 14. Overall, it was a 14-1 run for Kean that cemented their seventh NJAC victory.

Treadwell was 7-for-12 in the second half for 14 points and seven rebounds. The Cougars held Camden to just 20 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes. A total of 11 players saw action for Kean, including Deserai Vazquez and Mikeera Brown who chipped in with three and two points, respectively.

The Cougars will hit the road for an NJAC matchup with Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday.
