Krista LaMaina Leads Field Hockey to NJAC Win

GALLOWAY, N.J. (10/10/15) Krista LaMaina led the Kean University field hockey team to a 6-2 victory over NJAC rival Stockton University on Saturday. The sophomore scored two goals and assisted on two more for six points on the day.

Kean is now 11-3 on the year, while the Ospreys sank to 2-9. It was the first NJAC win of the season for Kean (1-2). Stockton is still searching for their first conference victory.

LaMaina got started quickly, hitting the ball into the cage out of midair with an assist from her twin sister Shauna LaMaina less than five minutes into the contest.

Three minutes later, Teresa Carr scored an unassisted goal to double the Kean lead.

Senior Marissa Robinson added her first goal since coming back from injury in the first half, and the Cougars took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Once again Krista LaMaina came out hot as the half started. She scored two minutes after halftime with an assist from Chelsea Mann, then helped on Raykena Brown's marker to make the score 5-0.

After Kean conceded a goal, LaMaina set up Brown (pictured left) again for the Cougars' final score of the day at 65:07.

The Kean defense did not allow a goal until the outcome was sealed nearly 60 minutes into the game. Grace Kinney and Laura Olbrich scored for the Ospreys.

Katie DiCarlo played 66 minutes and allowed just one goal to earn her 11th victory of the season.

The Cougars will return home on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Delaware Valley College at 7:30 p.m.
