Field Hockey Scores Three Goals in Nine Minutes to Win 4-1

UNION, N.J. (10/13/15) – The Kean field hockey team scored three times after a long lightning delay to snap a 1-1 tie and earn a 4-1 victory over Delaware Valley University on Tuesday. Krista LaMaina scored twice to help lift the Cougars to a 12-3 record. Del Val is now 6-7 on the year.

Kean was dominant in the first half. The Cougars took the first 20 shots of the night and the game's first six corners. Kean took the lead when Chelsea Mann dribbled down the endline and deked three Aggie defenders. She found LaMaina in front for the goal at 18:56.

Despite the statistical dominance, the Cougars allowed one Delaware Valley scoring opportunity and they converted off a penalty corner. Kara Imes had the goal with an assist from Cecelia Lundsberry.

With 2:20 to go in the first half, lightning forced a delay of over 30 minutes. The teams agreed not to take a halftime break in light of the lengthy stoppage. After the game resumed and the teams switched sides following the final 2:20, Kean found its rhythm.

Marissa Robinson scored an unassisted goal just 22 seconds after the restart with a snipe into the top left corner, and exactly three minutes later LaMaina scored again with an assist from Raykena Brown. It was her NJAC-leading 23rd goal of the season.

Jordan Colna capped the outburst with a pretty goal that she lifted over the goalkeeper from just inside the circle.

Goalkeeper Katie DiCarlo was also strong for Kean, as the Cougars were outshot in the second half 12-8. Robinson chipped in with a pair of defensive saves in the second period to keep that half scoreless for the Aggies.

Tuesday night was also the field hockey program's Play for the Cure Night. The team raised over $700 toward the fight against breast cancer this season.

The Cougars will return to NJAC play on Friday night against Rowan University at 7p.m.
