Kean gained 452 total yards of offense and held the Captains to just 38 yards rushing on its way to improving to 4-1 at the midway mark of the season. Newport is 1-4 and 1-3 in the NJAC while Kean raised its record to 4-1 and 3-1 in the league.

The Cougars took the opening kickoff and marched 64 yards in seven plays for the game's first touchdown. Corredor ran for 33 yards on that drive, and Kean quarterback Charles App (pictured left) completed a pass to Schmitt for a gain of 24 yards down to the Newport nine-yard line. On the next play, App took a keeper around the right end in for the touchdown. Jaishon Moore and Tahj Hammary had great blocks on the play to spring him.

With Kean trailing 7-6 at the start of the second quarter, App found Schmitt on the run. The big tight end rumbled all the way to the Christopher Newport 11 for a gain of 75 yards. Two plays later, App threw a dart to Tyler Hopman after a playaction fake for the 11-yard touchdown pass that put the Cougars back in the lead for good.

Kean went for two and Qaudir Johnson hauled in the loft pass in the left side of the endzone to put the Cougars up 14-7.

The Captains added a second-quarter field goal to make the halftime score 14-10.

Kean forced two third quarter fumbles on the first two Captain possessions: Stephan Lewis caused the first and Derrick Copeland had the other. Copeland (pictured right) scooped up his own forced fumble and Darin Hungerford came up with the first recovery for Kean.

After the first turnover, App faked a throw on third-and-four, then plowed through three Captain defenders to break into the endzone on a five-yard run to make the count 21-10. Schmidt set up the score again with a long catch on the drive.

With Kean still in front in the fourth quarter, Corredor (pictured left) broke off a 50-yard scamper down to the CNU 15. He took the next play nine more yards to set up another App five-yard touchdown run that put the Cougars up 28-10.

Late in the game on fourth-and-goal, Kyree Tyson-Jones took a handoff from the Newport two-yard line and punched it in to put the game on ice for the Cougars.

The Kean defense shut out the Captains in the second half and held them to just 108 total yards in the final 30 minutes. The Cougars held the ball for 18 minutes in the second half.

The Cougars had four sacks in the game. Hungerford had 1.5, while Lewis and Tom Winters both had one. Winters also hurried the quarterback two more times and had two tackles for a loss.

Matt Williams had nine tackles to lead the team, while David Coleman Jr. had eight stops and broke up a team-high three passes.

App accounted for three rushing touchdowns and had another through the air. He was 14-22 passing for 202 yards and had another 72 yards on the ground.

Punter Steve Ferlisi pinned the Captains inside the 20 twice.

Aresaiah Robinson had the only touchdown for Christopher Newport.

The Cougars will travel to Dover, Delaware next week for an NJAC matchup with new conference rival Wesley College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
