Women's Soccer Battles To 1-1 Tie Against Stockton

Union, N.J. (10/24/15) – The Kean University women's soccer program honored the careers of seven seniors in tonight's NJAC play against Stockton University resulting in a 1-1 double overtime tie.

The Cougars are now 9-6-2 on the season and 4-2-2 in the NJAC.

Kean and Stockton battled for the advantage in the first half, but neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. The fight for the first goal was a physical one, with 6 fouls each in the first half. The half ended with the Cougars leading in shots, 8-5 and corners 1-0. 

The Cougars started off strong in the second half coming close to scoring, exciting the crowd. The Kean offense was able to beat two defenders and extract the Stockton goalie, but could not follow through to score.

Five minutes after, the Ospreys (11-2-6, 2-1-5) broke the 0-0 tie. With 20 minutes remaining in the game, Marissa Bruno scored from 20 yards out on a free kick.

Kean answered back in the 76th minute with a goal from Kayla Birth, assisted by Grace O'Brien (pictured left) off a corner.

In a game physical game from the start, Kean and Stockton ended the second half with a combined four yellow cards and total of 26 fouls.

Both teams had chances in the extra stanzas, but couldn't find the back of the net in

KC Nunez had eight saves on the evening while her counterpart, Nicole Pallante had five.

The Cougars edged the Ospreys in the final shot count (19-17) while the combined foul count was 31.

Kean will hit the road for another NJAC match up against Ramapo College on Wednesday, October 28th at 3 p.m. for their last regular season game.
