EWING, N.J. (10/31/15) – Krista LaMaina of the Kean University field hockey team scored twice to tie Brittany Gibbs' single-season goal record and Chelsea Mann had an assist to tie LaMaina and Katie McGee atop the Cougars' all-time single-season assist list as Kean fell to No. 2 TCNJ 6-2 on Saturday.
LaMaina's two goals give her 28 for the year. Combined with the record-tying 14 assists, she now has a record-setting 70 points in her sophomore season.
Mann caught up to LaMaina's 2015 total and matched McGee's single-season record set in 2008 with her 14th assist of the season on LaMaina's first goal at 40:20 on Saturday.
The second-ranked Lions - the defending national champions - scored the only three goals of the opening half. Taylor Barrett scored one and assisted another for TCNJ.
LaMaina put the Cougars on the board early in the second period, and then prevented a natural hat trick by Lexi Smith by interrupting her scoring run at 57:26 with an assist by Katie-Lynne Lussier. The Lions (16-1, 6-0 NJAC) have surrendered just eight goals total in their other 16 games combined.
Shauna LaMaina (pictured left) had two defensive saves for Kean to keep the Cougars win the game, and Marissa Robinson added another defensive stop for the Cougars on Saturday.
Kean (14-6, 2-4 NJAC) will await the announcement of the ECAC Tournament field the week of November 9.
