UNION, N.J. (11/14/15) – Junior guard Jaquetta Owens was three steals short of a triple-double (29 points, 13 assists, 7 steals) as she led the Kean University women's basketball team to an 84-60 victory on Saturday over Hunter College. It was the season-opener for both schools.
After the first quarter, Kean led 17-14. The Cougars had made eight field goals; Owens had four of them and assisted on three others as she controlled the Kean offense.

The Cougars ripped off a 12-2 run to open the second quarter. Keyla Martinez, Tori Schweyher, Owens and Eden Obou all scored during the streak that increased the Kean lead to 27-16.
Hunter rallied to make the halftime score close. Jade Aponte had 10 first-half points for the Hawks. Owens had 13 points at the break for Kean, as well as six assists. Freshman Marajiah Bacon (pictured left) had eight points, and her twin sister Miesha Bacon had a team-high five rebounds.
Most of the second half was academic. Kean was up by 20 most of the final 20 minutes and never let the lead get closer than 14 in the final 15 minutes of the game.
In their first NCAA action of their careers, Marajiah Bacon (15) and Schweyer (11) were all in double figures for Kean.
Freshman Diana Todaro led the Cougars with nine rebounds while Janté Bracewell finished with 16 points.
Kean made nine treys on the afternoon, led by Owens' five. The Hawks managed just 1-14 shooting from behind the arc. The Hawks' Ayanna Hudson also totaled up a double-double in the game, with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Cougars will return to action in 24 hours when they host Brooklyn College at Harwood Arena at 1p.m. on Sunday.
