MONTCLAIR, N.J. (11/24/15) – Sophomore Janté Bracewell had 20 points for the Kean University women's basketball team in a 73-48 setback against No. 12 Montclair State University on Tuesday. The Cougars owned a 16-13 lead after the first quarter but could not keep up with the defending NJAC Champions. The Red Hawks were a Final Four team last season.
Bracewell scored her 20 points on 9-for-20 shooting, she also pulled down four rebounds and had a steal.
Jaquetta Owens scored 14 points for the Cougars, and freshman Marajiah Bacon added 10 for Kean.
Fellow freshman Diana Todaro had a team-high nine rebounds. Owens paced the team with five assists.
On the Montclair side Kayla Cebalos and Tiarra Dillard were the only players in double figures, though the Red Hawks had a full dozen players in the scoring column.
The Kean defense held the high-scoring Montclair offense to a shooting percentage draw, but the difference came from the free throw line, where MSU's 21 free-throws were more than four times Kean's total.
The Cougars are now 3-2 on the year and 0-1 in the NJAC. Montclair is 4-0 and 2-0 in the league.
The Kean basketball program will have the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving before resuming the NJAC play on Wednesday, December 2 at Ramapo College.
