Mahwah, N.J. (12/2/15) – The Kean University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to push past Ramapo College, 56-44, on Wednesday evening in NJAC action.
After a week long layoff, the Cougars (4-2, 1-1 NJAC) led for almost the entire contest (the Roadrunners tallied the first basket of the night) as rookie Marajiah Bacon led all players with 20 points. This is Bacon's sixth straight double-digit point tally and third with 20 or more points already this season.
Kean benefited with six made free throws during a slow scoring first quarter to jump out to a 12-7 lead. In the second quarter Ramapo closed within two (16-14) but a Danielle Oakley free throw and trey from Tori Schweyher helped give Kean a little breathing room. The Cougars headed into the break with a 25-20 advantage.
Bacon and Jaquetta Owens each had seven points in the first 20 minutes as Owens was a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.
The Cougars used three shots from beyond the arc in the third quarter to widen the gap and paced the final quarter to walk away with their first NJAC win of the season.
Owens (pictured left) finished with 14 points while rookies Ruby Asabor and Diana Todaro each brought down double-digit rebounds with 11 and 13 respectively. Freshman Miesha Bacon came off the bench and tallied 10 points and four rebounds in the win.
Kean returns home and will face Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at Harwood Arena.
