MILWAUKEE, Wis. (3/14/15) – The No. 3 Kean University men's volleyball team fell to a pair of Midwest opponents, Lakeland College and Milwaukee School of Engineering, to end its Western swing on Saturday.
Against Lakeland to start the day, the Cougars seemed to have everything under control early with a 25-14 first set victory. Kean hit .478 in the frame, led by Bez Arslani's five kills. But over the next three sets, Kean's hitting percentage fell from .478 to .094, .133 and .067 as Lakeland made defensive adjustments.
Though they had just four blocks, Lakeland dug 58 Cougar attacks, led by Jordan Smith with a match-high 13. The Muskies also got 44 assists from Smith, who distributed it to three different attackers that reached double figures in kills (Tim Robbins, Dan Matjevic and Anthony Puccini).
Kean was led by Arslani and Kyle Farley, who had nine kills each. Farley also had five blocks. Ed Jedziniak had 12 digs and six kills, while setter Ron Dunn had 29 assists.
The Cougars again were able to take the first set against the Raiders, but Milwaukee School of Engineering came back to win the final three sets. Jedziniak (pictured left) had 13 kills to lead the team.
These are just the second and third losses of the year for the Cougars. They are 20-3. Milwaukee is 13-9 and Lakeland is 12-13.
For MSOC, Neil Naughton had a dozen kills. Quin Krisik had 38 assists and Bryant Holland served four aces.
The Cougars will have a week off before returning home for Senior Day: a Skyline Conference Trimatch with the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Yeshiva University on March 22.
