Redlands, Calif. (3/16/15) – The University of Redlands baseball team exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to pull away from Kean University by the final of 13-3 in non-conference action.
For the Cougars (8-2) junior Sal Taormina was 2-for-4 with two RBI, including a monster two-run blast, his first of the season.
#6/15 Kean took their only lead of the day in their first at-bat as junior Matt Meleo started off the game with a single up the middle. He would come around to score later in the inning on a balk, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Redlands (14-6) tied things up in their half of the second following a leadoff double and a one out RBI single.
After taking the lead on a single run in the fourth, the Bulldogs widened the gap with a three run fifth inning to push ahead 5-1. Taormina (pictured left) brought the Cougars to within two with his blast in the sixth inning, but Redlands pulled away in the later innings.
For the Bulldogs, Sean McMillan was 2-for-5 with four RBI while Ryan Franklin was 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Kean returns to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Chapman University at 7 p.m. local time.
