CORTLAND, N.Y. (3/21/15) – Anthony Carpenter and Anthony Rybek both scored twice for the Kean University men's lacrosse team on Saturday, but is was not enough as the Cougars fell to SUNY Potsdam 11-7.
The Cougars trailed 6-3 at halftime, but put together a four-goal run that spanned the third and fourth quarters and got them back to within one. Anthony Perrotta started the Kean comeback with an unassisted goal, and then set up Carpenter's second score of the day to make the score 8-5.
Three minutes later, Carpenter fed Rybek for a man-up goal at 2:54 of the third.
With two minutes gone in the final period, Rybek scored another man-up goal – this one from Jeff Christiano – as the Cougars closed to within one at 8-7.
But the Bears were able to do just enough to stay in front. A man-up goal finally broke the Cougar scoring streak and Potsdam added two late tallies to seal it. Ed Doherty scored four times for the Bears, and Dalston Day added a hat trick.
Pete Gropp earned the win in goal for Potsdam, while his counterpart Maxwell Fields made two more saves for a total of 11 in the game.
Lucas Kiernan (pictured left) had a good day at midfield for the Cougars, and was 6-11 on faceoffs. Zach Dellecave had six groundballs and was the only Kean player to force more than one turnover.
The Cougars will next take on DeSales University in a Wednesday road game at 4 p.m.
