MAHWAH, N.J. (3/25/15) – The No. 5 Kean University men's volleyball team downed Ramapo College in straight sets on Wednesday in a battle for first place in the Skyline Conference. The Cougars remain undefeated in the conference at 9-0 and are 23-3 overall. Kean has handed the Roadrunners their only two league losses; they are 10-2 in the conference and 15-13 overall.
Kean dominated the defensive side of the game, with seven blocks to Ramapo's one and 39 digs, led by seniors John Cunningham (12/pictured left) and Ed Jedziniak (10), who were both in double digits. Jedziniak, Kyle Farley and Tommy Rosario had five, four and three blocks, respectively, to pace the team there.
The Cougars held Ramapo to just a .103 attack percentage over the three sets.
Ron Dunn dished out 31 assists as he coordinated the Kean attack. He also kept six kills for himself and posted five digs. Bez Arslani had a match-high 16 kills with a .481 percentage, while Rosario hit .667 with six kills. Freshman Jacob Kauffman had nine kills for the Cougars.
In the third set, the Roadrunners led by as much as four points before Kean caught them at 16. The set was tied eight more times after that, with the teams trading blow-for-blow. The Cougars turned to Arslani to get their final four kills of the night and earn the sweep with a 27-25 set three victory.
Peter Desvousges led Ramapo with 10 kills on the night.
Kean will be back in action with four Skyline matches this weekend, starting with two Saturday at Sarah Lawrence College.
