Krista LaMaina Re-Writes Record Book as Field Hockey Dominates Keuka 10-0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (9/12/15) – The Kean University field hockey team thumped Keuka College 10-0 on Saturday to advance to the finals of the Wilson College Invitational. Sophomore Krista LaMaina set a new Kean record with four assists during the game and netted a hat trick in the contest. Those 10 points tied the Kean single-game standard set by Korri Thompson in 2013.

Saturday's victory also marked the 100th career win for Kean head coach Leslie LaFronz, and her 72nd at the helm of the Kean program.

The Cougars dominated so thoroughly that they did not allow a single shot on the afternoon. The count was 49-0 in that column and 37-2 in penalty corners. Katie DiCarlo, Rebecca Hall and Erin Smith all shared the shutout in goal for Kean.

Krista LaMaina secured her hat trick by 27:02 of the first half. She assisted the first and third goals of the game and scored the second, fourth and fifth. As the second half opened, she set up Raykena Brown and Chelsea Mann within 14 seconds of each other to set the new Kean single-game standard for assists. The previous-best mark was three assists in a game and had been done five times previously.

Other highlights included Marissa Robinson scoring twice, Brown's two goals, a score by Jordan Melillo and freshman Kayla Molnar's (pictured left) first collegiate goal. Shauna LaMaina, Elisabeth Cromlish and Jordan Colna all had assists in the game.

The Cougars improved to 5-0 on the season, while Keuka is still looking for its first victory at 0-4.

Kean will move on to take on host Wilson College in the Championship Game of the Wilson College Invitational at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
