ALBANY, N.Y. (1/22/16) – The No. 11 Kean University men's volleyball team won the first four sets of the Wildcat Invitational on Friday night, sweeping Wells College in the process. But the Cougars ran out of steam against fourth-ranked Nazareth College in the nightcap and fell to the Golden Flyers 3-1.

The Cougars swept aside Wells College in the day's first match: 25-20, 25-20, 25-13. Jacob Kauffman and Shayron Taylor both had seven kills in the three-set match. Taylor also ripped off two aces. Nick Breslin had 13 digs and Tommy Rosario was in on three blocks.

Setters Steve Schrank and Kevin Barrow split the team's assists nearly in half, with Barrow netting 14 and Schrank coming in with a baker's dozen.

Against the Fourth-ranked Golden Flyers, Kauffman hit .429 with 14 kills on 28 attempts and just two errors. Taylor had two more aces in the match and added six kills.

Bill Fischer put down nine kills on the outside for Kean, and Barrow returned to dish out 29 assists.

Breslin again paced the team with 12 digs, and Connor Evans (pictured left) added six in that column for the Cougars. Rosario added a team-high three blocks over the four sets.

With the spilt on Friday, the Cougars are now 3-2 on the year. Friday marked the first action of the year for the two other schools. Nazareth is now 2-0 and Wells is 1-1.

Kean will be back in action tomorrow at the Wildcat Invitational with matches against Vassar College and host SUNY Polytechnic Institute beginning at 11 a.m.
