Men's Volleyball Kicks Off Clash at Kean with Sweep

UNION, N.J. (1/29/16) – The Kean Universty men's volleyball team swept aside Lasell College 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 in the first match of the Clash at Kean on Friday night. Senior middle Tommy Rosario hit .818 in the match and was in on a team-high six blocks to lead the Cougars.

After the Cougars wrapped up the first set handily, the second set was tied at 15. Kean turned to Jared Warner for a solid kill that sparked three-straight points to pull ahead. Kean eventually scored eight of the next 11 to put the set on ice and go up 2-0 in the match. The second set was tied nine times and had an additional five lead changes early on.

The third set was tied at 11, but Kean got another big run. The Cougars earned five-straight points with Shayron Taylor serving to pull ahead. The Lasers got within two after Patrick MacDonald had back-to-back aces in the endgame, but Kean never relinquished the lead and held on for the victory.

Kean had a total on nine team blocks in the match, while Lasell managed just one.

Bill Fischer also had a good night for the Cougars, hitting .429 with 11 kills on 21 swings. Steve Schrank had a match-best 34 assists. Jacob Kauffman added seven kills and Nick Breslin had eight digs.

Kean is now 5-3 on the season. Lasell fell to 2-2.

The Cougars will be back in action inside Harwood Arena tomorrow for the conclusion of the Clash at Kean. Matches will be at 12 p.m. vs. Rivier University and 4 p.m. vs. Marymount University.
