No. 12 Men's Volleyball Hosts Skyline Block Party

UNION, N.J. (3/18/16) – The No. 12 Kean University men's volleyball team knocked off Skyline Conference rivals Ramapo College and Yeshiva University with ease on Sunday in two sweeps. The Cougars are now 11-0 in Skyline play and alone in first-place in the league. Kean's overall mark is 23-6.

In the first action against Ramapo, the Cougars did not allow Ramapo to hit the ball back to their side of the net, racking up two blocks and two errors on the day's first four points. Kean held Ramapo to a negative-.161 attack percentage in the opening set and racked up six blocks in the first.

Kean won big in the next two sets as well, putting itself in the driver's seat for the Skyline Conference regular-season Championship and as likely hosts for the Skyline Tournament. The set scores were 25-12, 25-15 and 25-13.

Ramapo hit negative-.014 over the whole match, while Kean blocked the Roadrunners 13 different times.

In contrast, Kean hit .471 over the three-set sweep. Setter Steve Schrank coordinated the Cougar attack with 26 assists, none finer than the play in the second set where he set up Bill Fischer for a kill from the wrong side of the net after an errant first pass.

Schrank (2 kills), Shayron Taylor (6), Connor Evans (5), Tommy Rosario (7) and Jared Warner (1) all hit over .500 in the emphatic win over the Cougars' closest conference rivals.

The match against the Maccabees was even more lopsided: the final two sets were won 25-6 by the Cougars. Nicholas Buseski had 10 kills against Yeshiva and Nico Mercadante (pictrued left) added seven.

Kean will remain home for its final regular-season home matches of 2016 on Wednesday against Skyline Conference opponents New Jersey City University and Sarah Lawrence College. Senior Day festivities will begin before the 6 p.m. match against NJCU.
