Men's Volleyball Cruises, Blanking NJCU and Sarah Lawrence

Union, N.J. (3/23/16) – The Kean University men's volleyball team remained perfect in conference play with straight set wins over New Jersey City University and Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday night.

The #11 Cougars (25-6, 13-0 Skyline) were led by senior Tommy Rosario, who was honored prior to the start, as he compiled seven kills and five assisted blocks.

Kean cruised in the opening set as Jacob Kauffman used two aces to cap off a 6-0 run to push the advantage out to 11-4.  The Cougars hit .529 in the opening stanza, holding NJCU (16-16, 7-6 Skyline) to just .120.  Kean also had an impressive 92% sideout percentage in set one.

The Gothic Knights jumped out on top in second two pushing out to a 10-5 lead thanks to multiple serving and attack errors by the Cougars.  Kean fought back tying things up at 10-all with a kill from Rosario.  After see-sawing to 17-all, the Cougars took the lead for good with a kill from Kauffman.

The third set saw a much tighter battle as Kean needed a late push to gain some cushion, pulling ahead by five points on several occasions down the stretch before going on to win the set 25-21.

Setters Steve Schrank and Kevin Barrow combined for 29 assists while Kaufmann tied for a game-high eight kills.  Bill Fischer also picked up eight kills along with six digs and four assisted blocks.

In the nightcap, the Cougars cruised to a blanking of Sarah Lawrence (0-17, 0-13 Skyline), 25-11, 25-8, 25-9.  Nicholas Buseski tallied a game-high eight kills while hitting .462.  Sophomore Jared Warner notched six kills while hitting .750 and added five aces and three digs.  Libero Zach Lynne provided six digs.

Kean returns to action next Wednesday when they travel to the College of Mt. St. Vincent.
