HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (3/22/16) – The Kean University softball team outscored Centenary College by a total of 28-2 in a doubleheader sweep of the Cyclones on Tuesday. Kean is now 7-9 on the year and has won four-straight.
In their first action above the Mason-Dixon line this season, the Cougars pounded out 32 hits in the two games. The team was paced by junior centerfielder Dana Knapp (pictured left), who went 7-for-9 with three doubles and her team-leading fifth homerun of the year. She posted six runs batted in and scored six runs.
Emily Sabo and Amanda Berezny had five hits each with a combined six runs scored and eight RBIs. Berezny had three doubes in game one. Katie Garbarino went 2-for-3 on the day.
Cougar hurlers Shannon McMahon and Kiele Eichlin earned the two victories. McMahon pitched all seven innings in game two and did not allow an earned run, while Eichlin fanned 10 batters in her run-rule shortened five-inning complete game.
Olivia Zengel also had a multi-hit day, while Tonianne DeMatteo, Emily Bissonnette, Kacie Worswick and Samantha Krakower all had tallies in the hit column for Kean as well.
The Cougars will be back in action at home next Saturday, April 2 to begin NJAC play against New Jersey City University at 1 p.m. Kean is also looking to make up the missed date with DeSales University next week, but the contests have not been finalized.
