La Plume, Pa. (3/26/16) – Keystone College used a three run first inning to take a lead they would not relinquish in a 6-3 win over the Kean University baseball team on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Chris Amato suffered the loss in the complete game effort. Amato (2-2) allowed two earned runs with five strikeouts and no walks.
After trailing 4-0 heading into the third, the Cougars (9-9) got within one with a three run third frame. Senior Eric Fernandez started things off with a single and moved to second on a ground ball by catcher Brian Cole that was misplayed in the infield. Junior Tyler Heisch moved both runners into scoring position with a bunt and senior Ryan Kelley delivered drove both home with a single in the gap. After a Sal Taormina single, sophomore Matt Krupa (pictured left) rounded out the scoring with an RBI single.
That would be as close as Kean would get, however, as the Giants (10-3) added insurance with single runs in the fifth and sixth and held the Cougars to just two hits the rest of the way.
Taormina was 2-for-5 on the day while senior Ryan Reitmeyer registered a double.
Kean returns to non-conference action on Tuesday when they travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island.
