Union, N.J. (3/5/16) - The Kean University women's lacrosse team opened up their 2016 spring season with a 17-7 victory over Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Sam Gnapp started the scoring spree within the first 15 seconds of the match. Cougars (1-0), Jordan Blanda and Brittany Ballack followed suit scoring just a minute apart to take a 3-0 lead, three minutes into the half.
The Mount Saint Mary (1-1) offense answered back with three goals, scored by Claire Duffy and Katie Gattoni. However, the Cougars never trailed adding six more goals to their tally and ending the half with a 9-3 advantage.
The Knights saw a lot of action in the second half, but were off to a slow start as the Cougar offense scored the first four goals. Gattoni led the Mount Saint Mary offense with three goals.
Kean ended the match with four explosive unanswered goals, two from Morgan Graham and one each from Krista LaMaina and Gnapp.
The Cougar offense finished the day with four goals each from Graham (pictured left) and Gnapp, hat tricks for Emily Stasuk and Blanda and action from Ballack, LaMaina and Meghan Tillger. Nikki Apostolopoulos earned the win for the Cougars with eight saves, playing all 60 minutes.
The Cougars will travel to Bradenton, Florida for a match up against SUNY Canton on Tuesday, March 8th at 4 p.m.
