Rincon, P.R. (3/6/16) – Misericordia University used timely hitting to plate single runs early and that held up as the topped the Kean University baseball team by the final of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in the Clemente Cup.

D.J. Navoczynski led MU with a 3-for-4 day as the only player from either team with a multi-hit afternoon.

Both teams had chances early as Kean (4-5) had runners in scoring position in the first, but a groundout ended the early threat.  Misericordia used back-to-back singles to start off the bottom of the first putting runners on the corners.  With one out, Jeremy DeCotiis swiped second putting runners on second and third.  Mike Comerford grounded sharply to third but a heads up Andy Lopez caught Chris Boroch off the base and he beat him back to the bag with the tag for out number two.  Navoczynski then drove in what would be the winning run with a single to left.

Kyle Lindsay manufactured his own run in the third as he walked, swiped second and third and eventually scored on a comebacker.

Misericordia added insurance in the sixth as Alec Iurato doubled home Navoczynski who reached via a leadoff single. 

Kean had other opportunities, leaving nine runners on base, but the Misericordia infield took away at least five hits with plays in the hole to end any threats.

Ryan Dorosch (1-0) earned the win after tossing seven shutout innings allowing five hits and adding five strikeouts.  Elliot Forde picked up the save, tossing two shutout frames.

Kean will be back in action on Monday when they take on Susquehanna University at 7 p.m. local time.
