Rowan Rallies Late in 14-13 Win Over Women's Lacrosse

Union, N.J. (4/23/16) – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team scored two goals in the final 24 seconds of action to rally past Kean University by the final of 14-13 on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 12-11 with just under nine minutes to go the Cougars (12-3, 2-2 NJAC) tied things up with 1:23 on the clock as Brittany Ballack streaked around two defenders to find the back of the net.  Just 20 seconds later Kean took the lead as Sam Gnapp found a wide open Krista LaMaina in front of the net.

Rowan (9-5, 3-1 NJAC) used quick opportunities off the draw down the stretch and tied things up as Mikala Gillespie scored her first goal of the season with just 24 seconds to go.  With time expiring the Profs again took advantage of a draw control win and rookie Jess Havers netted the game winner off a pass from Gillespie to walk away with the win.

In a tight see-saw battle the entire day it was the Cougars who found some breathing room in the second half.  After leading 9-7 at the break, Kean tallied the first two goals of the second period as Emily Stasuk and Ballack used unassisted marks to push the advantage out to four, 11-7.

Rowan responded and junior Ali Herbert got her team back into the mix with four goals during a five goal rally, eating up 14 minutes off the clock during the span.

Offensively, Jordan Blanda (pictured left) recorded four goals for Kean while Ballack and Stasuk each had three.  For the Profs, Herbert registered a game-high seven goals with five draw controls.

Kean will travel to face Montclair State University on Tuesday evening.
