Montclair, N.J. (4/26/16) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team was edged by Montclair State University by the final of 8-7 on Tuesday evening in NJAC action.
The Cougars (12-4, 2-3 NJAC) suffered a similar fate tonight as they did this past Saturday, with their opponent using a late rally to top Kean by a one goal margin.
In a tale of two halves, the Cougars pushed early and sprinted out to a 6-1 lead. Rookie Morgan Graham (pictured left) notched the first goal of the day and added another in the run. Emily Stasuk closed out the run as Kean scored five straight goals in a five minute stretch.
The Red Hawks (10-5, 3-2 NJAC) cut the lead in half before intermission as the Cougars led 6-3 at the break.
It took over 10 minutes before either team found the back of the net in the second half but it was Kean that added to their lead as Sam Gnapp tallied a marker with 17:50 to go. That would be the last goal of the day, however, for Kean as MSU swung the momentum and rolled off five straight goals, tying the match up on a Chelsea Orban goal with 7:43 to go and scoring the go-ahead tally on an Orban goal at the 2:00 warning.
The Cougars had their best chance in the final minute of action but their free position attempt hit the post and was picked up by the Red Hawks who sealed the win.
Goalkeeper Nikki Apostolopoulos recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Kean closes out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to the College of New Jersey.
