Field Hockey Dominates in Season Opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa. (9/2/16) – Four different Cougars scored as the Kean University field hockey team opened its 2016 season in a neutral game against Wilkes University on Saturday. Kean will be looking for its fourth-straight Connie Harnum Classic Championship in the final match of the event on Saturday.

Leading the way for the Cougars was junior forward Krista LaMaina, who scored two goals and had an assist to pick up right where she left off from her record-setting 2015 campaign. Twin sister Shauna LaMaina had both a goal and an assist on Friday as well from the midfield.

Rookie midfielder Jenna Patrone (pictured left), making her collegiate debut, notched both a goal and an assist on a night she won't soon forget.

Fellow freshman Rachel Mills scored Kean's inaugural goal of 2016 in her collegiate debut, breaking a 0-0 tie in the 21st minute of the game. She re-directed Jordan Colna's hard shot into the lower right corner.

The Cougar defense was stellar; it allowed just six total shots and only one shot in the first period. Sophomore Erin Smith earned her first career win in goal with two saves on the night.

Maura Anistranski scored the only goal for Wilkes in the game at 47:33.

Friday marked the first game of the season for both teams. Kean will take on host Susquehanna University for the Connie Harnum Classic Championship on Saturday at 5p.m.
