The Cougars took advantage of a St. Joe's miscue to score their early goal. Just 8:12 into the game, an Eagle defender touched the ball back with his feet to his goaltender, who absent-mindedly picked it up with his hands to give Kean an indirect kick just outside the six-yard box. Mateo Castro Arias touched it to Kherlopian, who ripped it low through the wall in front for the 1-0 lead.
For the visitors, a header by Justin Heredia hit the left post midway through the first half was perhaps their best scoring opportunity. But Watkins was near the ball if it had been a threat, however. Kean fired 10 shots total in the first half and did not allow a shot on goal.
It was a tight first half, but Kherlopian had a good individual effort less than four minutes after the break and beat multiple defenders to slip the ball past the goalie and double the Kean lead.
Trought assisted the next two goals with slick passes; first to Barrera at 54:23 and then just 30 seconds later to Jelani Williams for his first goal as a Cougar.
Barrera and Kenny Rocha hooked up for the final goal at 65:05 as the four-goal outburst occurred in just over 16 minutes of game time.
Heredia got St. Joe's first shot on goal with just 11:30 left in the game. Kean outshot St. Joe's 22-6.
The Golden Eagles fell to 02 on the year. The Cougars (2-1) will have a quick turnaround and head to Purchase College tomorrow – Wednesday – for a 7p.m. tilt against the Panthers.
