#23 Softball Splits Contests on Day Three of Sunkissed Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/13/18)- Julie Raba tallied three RBI's and four hits as the #23 Kean University softball team split this morning's contests against Salve Regina University and the College of Wooster on Tuesday.

Salve Regina 9, Kean 1 (5 Inn.)

The Cougars (6-1) were handed their first loss of the season as the Seahawks run-ruled Kean. Salve Regina collected nine runs on 14 hits, while the Cougars scattered five hits and one run in the loss.

SRU led 9-0 before Nicole Vassallo finally drove in a run for Kean. Vassallo hit into an RBI groundout, which allowed Tatiana Yourstone to score.  

Kaitlin Stahlbrand allowed six earned runs and took the loss, while Kate Valente made her collegiate pitching debut tossing 3.2 innings.

Wooster 7, Kean 4

Raba went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored, while Olivia Zengel went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

After trailing 3-2 entering the top of the sixth inning, Kean put together four runs on six hits which included RBI's from Zengel, Raba, Cayleen Rizo and  Jacqueline Riley. The Cougars (7-1) regained the advantage at 6-3.

Kean added an insurance run in the seventh as Raba hit a sacrifice fly to score Maria Bonfanti.

Stahlbrand improved to 3-1 in the circle with two strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Wed. Mar. 14th, against Beloit College at 11:15 a.m. and Washington College at 1:30 p.m. on Day Four of the Sunkissed Games in Kissimmee, Florida.
