KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/14/18) - Jacqueline Riley and Cayleen Rizo combined for 10 RBI's as the #17 Kean University softball team swept Day Four of the Sunkissed Games with victories over Beloit College and Washington College.
Kean 15, Beloit 6 (5 Inn.)
The Cougars (8-1) had an offensive explosion in the first game, collecting 15 runs on 15 hits as Kean run-ruled the Bucs (1-8).
Julie Raba, Rizo, Riley and Kacie Worswick all went 3-for-4 from the dish with four RBI's from Rizo and three from Worswick.
Kean took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first before BC answered with six runs on five hits in the bottom half of the inning. Kean trailed 6-4 entering the top of the second. The Cougars were still behind 6-5 entering the fourth before Kean broke the game wide-open with 10 runs on 10 hits, including Rizo tallying a triple in the fourth and the fifth.
Riley and Maria Bonfanti both added two RBI's apiece. Amanda Ross tossed 4 1/3 innings of scoreless softball and collected her first collegiate victory.
Kean 9, Washington (MD) 8
The Cougars (9-1) were in a battle during game two, as a late rally helped Kean secure their ninth victory of the season. Riley went 3-for-4 with three RBI's, while Raba went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Katie Debbie went 1-for-3 with two RBI's.
Kean survived giving up two home runs, including a two-run shot from Elania DiPrimio in the top half of the sixth, which propelled the Shorewomen to a 7-6 lead. Riley proved to be clutch in the bottom half of the inning, smacking a two RBI, two-out single to score Erin Hollyfield and Debbie.
Riley, who struck out five batters in 4 2/3 innings pitched, got Washington to go 1-2-3 in the seventh as she earned her first victory of the season.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Thurs. Mar. 15th, against Millsaps College at 4:45 pm and Utica College at 6:00 pm on their final day of the Sunkissed Games.
