#22 Softball Sweeps Doubleheader with Gwynedd-Mercy

UNION, N.J. (3/28/18)- The #22 Kean University softball team extended their winning streak to three games with a doubleheader sweep of Gwynedd-Mercy University at Cougar Field on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME 1: Kean 3, Gwynedd-Mercy 1

Samantha Krakower went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI; while Cayleen Rizo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Julie Raba finished 2-for-4 with a run scored as the Cougars (13-2) scored just three runs on 11 hits. Kean notched a single run in the second, third and fourth innings as the Cougars recorded their second straight victory.

Krakower and Rizo each recorded an RBI double as Kean took a 2-0 lead into the fourth. After an RBI groundout from the Griffins (7-2) in the fourth, Kean scored an insurance run on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning.

Jacqueline Riley improved to 4-1 with six strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

GAME 2: Kean 9, Gwynedd-Mercy 2

Kean (14-2) scored nine runs on 19 hits, including six different batters recording a multiple hit game. Raba, Riley, Katie Debbie, and Kaitlin Stahlbrand all finished with three hits apiece. Kean scored five runs in the first two innings, including RBI's from Erin Hollyfield, Debbie, Rizo, and Riley.

After Gwynedd (7-3) recovered two runs in the fifth, the Cougars answered with another three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Stahlbrand fanned two and only allowed two hits as she improved to 5-1 overall.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 31st, hosting the RoadRunners of Ramapo for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
