Union, N.J. (4/19/18) – Freshman Daniel Chiusano tossed eight and two thirds innings of shutout ball to propel the Kean University baseball team to a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Newark in NJAC action on Thursday.
Chiusano (2-2) scattered four singles with four walks and five strikeouts along the win. Junior Kyle Gaeb earned his first save of the year after retiring the final out of the day on a groundout with the tying run in scoring position.
The Cougars (16-16, 7-4 NJAC) got the only run they would end up needing in the second as John Carello started off the frame with a single (one of three hits for him on the day). A walk to Brian Cole put him in scoring position and he would later swipe third and score on a wild pitch on the same play for a quick 1-0 lead.
Kean added one more in the fourth as Matt Krupa reached on an infield single. He moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and 90 feet away on a groundout from Carello. Nick Polizzano drove him in with a sacrifice.
Dominic Magliaro finished with half (2-for-4) of the Scarlet Raiders hits on the day.
The two teams will be back in action on Friday with Rutgers-Newark as the home team at Jim Hynes Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m.
