Union, N.J. (4/20/18) – The Kean University baseball team pounded out 18 hits on their way to sweeping the season series with Rutgers-Newark by the final of 9-2 on Friday afternoon.
Senior Frank Urso was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for Kean who improved to 17-16 this season and 8-4 in the NJAC.
Ryan Zucker was 1-for-4 with two RBI for Rutgers-Newark who falls to 9-21 and 1-11 in conference play.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead aided by two Scarlet Raider miscues and two wild pitches. Urso and Brian Cole each recorded RBI singles in the frame.
Rutgers-Newark plated their only runs of the day in the bottom of the second as Zucker singled to centerfield with the bases loaded and two outs.
Kean added two more in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Matt Krupa and an RBI infield single from Urso.
The Cougars closed out the scoring in the seventh on a sacrifice RBI from Cole and an RBI single from Zach Joe.
Dylan Colatrella earned the win in relief. Colatrella (1-0) allowed just three hits and two walks in four innings of work. Frank LoGiudice started the game and allowed two runs and seven hits in four innings. Krupa closed things out facing one over the minimum in the ninth.
Nick Polizzano was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while Joe and Conner DeForge each had two hits.
Kean faces off against Rowan University on Saturday at home beginning at 11:30 a.m.
