Union, N.J. (4/21/18) – Rowan University picked up two one run wins in New Jersey Athletic Conference action against the Kean University baseball team on Saturday afternoon.
Rowan 2, Kean 1 (Game One)
Dan Shane got the game going with a full count walk and worked his way around to third with two stolen bases around 2 outs. Anthony Harrold delivered a two out RBI single for a quick 1-0 lead.
A pitchers' duel ensued with Kean scratching across a single run to tie things up in the sixth as Nick Polizzano walked with one out. Frank LoGiudice doubled him home to knot things up.
Zach Leach gave Rowan the lead in the eighth as he started off the frame with a double. A groundout moved him 90 feet away and Shane lofted a sacrifice fly for what would be the winning run.
Kean (17-18, 8-6 NJAC) had their chance in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and third with no outs, but the Profs (25-5, 9-4 NJAC) were able to close the door to edge out the win.
Jordan Friedman earned his third save of the year with a scoreless ninth while Andrew Cartier (3-1) picked up the win with seven innings of work, allowing one run.
Offensively Matt Krupa and Polizzano had two hits each while Alex Kokos had two hits for Rowan
Rowan 3, Kean 2 (Game Two)
The Profs broke through in the fifth with two runs as Justin Provost started off the inning with a double. He was driven home by Kyle Golla who also registered a double. Two batters later Golla would score on an RBI single form Nick Scholley.
Rowan added another run in the sixth as Golla brought home Dillon Mendel with an RBI triple.
Kean erased the shutout in the bottom of the eighth as Brian Cole got aboard with a one out single and came around to score on a Zach Joe triple. Joe later scored as an errant throw back to the pitcher was low, allowing Joe to score.
The Cougars again had an opportunity in their last at-bat with a runner on third and one out but the Profs were able to close things out for their second one run win of the day.
Drew Ryback earned his sixth win of the year. Ryback (6-0) allowed two runs and five hits with five strikeouts. Dan Corvo picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth.
