GLASSBORO, N.J. (10/12/19) – Rachel Mills notched two goals as the Kean University field hockey team extended their winning streak to 14 games with a 3-1 upset victory over No. 4 Rowan University on Saturday evening.

Belly Reynoso made eight saves for the No. 16 Cougars who improve to 14-1 overall and remain unbeaten in the NJAC at 3-0. Kristiina Castagnola scored a goal for the defending champion Profs who fall to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC.

Kean set the tone early with two goals in the first five minutes.  Melissa Way notched her 19^th goal and her sixth game-winner of the season as the junior scored on a shot directly in front of the cage with a Ja'Carra Jackson fed ball from the right side for the 1-0 lead in the third minute.  Mills helped the Cougars increase their advantage to 2-0 in the fifth minute as the senior tapped the ball in on a Way shot from about five yards out.

Kean maintained the shutout until the 57^th minute when Castagnola put the Profs on the scoreboard with a shot off a rebound. The Cougars answered immediately, when Mills collected her second goal of the evening in the 58^th minute on a nearly identical goal to the one scored in the first.

Reynoso helped seal the victory for Kean when the freshman stopped a penalty stroke attempt in the 59^th minute.

The Cougars and Profs were even on shots (11-11), shots on goal (9-9) and penalty corners (11-11). Mills tallied four shots, while Peyton Mann and Way recorded two shots apiece.

Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will return to action in New Paltz, N.Y. on Tues. Oct. 15^th, against the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz at 4:00 p.m.
