Sedona Gaard and
Jesse Larkin all tallied 20 kills over two matches as the Kean University women's volleyball team took both matches on the opening day of the North Jersey Challenge.
Kean 3, Hamilton 2
Kortnee Nelson finished with 18 digs and became the second player in program history to record 1,500 career digs as the Cougars (19-7) needed all five sets to defeat the Continentals (8-8). Strozewski totaled 18 kills and five block assists, while Gaard tallied nine kills and 10 digs.
Michelle Froehlich posted double-digit digs with 17, while
Brianna Calvano finished with 42 assists, eight digs, five block assists and three aces.
Kean hit .227 for the match.
Kean 3, Hunter 2
Cailyn Ross (12), Gaard (15), Larkin (18) and Strozewski (10) all tallied double-digit kills as the Cougars (20-7) also needed five sets to defeat the Hawks (8-12).
Calvano totaled a season-high 54 assists and 12 digs, while Gaard (12),
Amanda DeLio (10), and
Sarah Sample (12) all tallied double-digit digs in the victory.
Kean hit .243 for the match.

Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Sat. Oct. 19th, on the final day of the North Jersey Challenge, facing the University of Northwestern at 10:00 a.m. and St. John's Fisher at 2:00 p.m.
