Football Falls to TCNJ, 7-3

Ewing, N.J. (10/19/19) – The Kean University football team suffered a 7-3 loss at The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action.

The Cougars fall to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the conference while TCNJ improves to 2-4 this fall and 2-1 in the NJAC.

The Cougars were able to put up a field goal on the opening drive to take a 3-0 advantage.

Joe Ciempola blocked a punt with under four minutes left to play in the second quarter. Ciempola came crashing off the line, and got a piece of it to force just a 21 yard punt to set the TCNJ offense up with good field position at the Kean 38 yard line. The Kean defense held the Lions right there and forced a punt. Kean took the 3-0 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lions took a 7-3 lead with another blocked punt. Kean was attempting to punt from their own 16 yard line. Cam Caorsi came off the line, and blocked the punt.  Ciempola picked it up at the two yard line and scored to put TCNJ up top 6-3. Bobby Wortman's extra point made it a 7-3 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter the Cougars were able to move the ball down the field, and got all the way to the two yard line. The TCNJ defense put forward a goal line stand to secure the win.

Quarterback Anthony Broccoletti was 24-of-38 for 237 yards.  Jemel Daniels led the defense with 10 total tackles and a sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss.

Kean returns home to face Salisbury University on Homecoming next Saturday at 1 p.m.
