JERSEY CITY, N.J. (10/2/19) –
Felipe Lucas notched two goals, including the game-winner in the 86th minute to propel the Kean University men's soccer team to its first New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over New Jersey City University, 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
Bend Alexandre also scored a goal for the Cougars who improve to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NJAC.
Koshane Marshall and
Edric De Paula each scored a goal for the Gothic Knights who fall to 9-3 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.
After falling behind 1-0 in the 8th minute, Kean answered with back-to-back goals for the 2-1 lead at halftime. Lucas knotted everything up at 1-1 in the 14th minute, when the sophomore collected a saved penalty kick and scored on the rebound between the keeper legs. Alexandre gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the 33rd minute as a
Danny Guillen corner kick bounced into the box and the sophomore ripped a shot into the lower left corner.
The second half saw Jersey City tie the contest at 2-2 in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick stemming from a handball in the box. Kean collected the game-winner in the 86th minute after an NJCU defender slipped, allowing
Felix Pereyra to make a quick pass to Lucas who beat the netminder one-on-one.
The Cougars edged the Gothic Knights on shots (20-12) and corner kicks (10-8). Lucas recorded a game-high 10 shots, while
Alex Nicol tallied three and Alexandre took two.
Dillon Konzelmann made two saves in 90 minutes of work.
