Falloon Records 100th Career Victory as Cougars Upend No. 17 Rowan

HILLSIDE, N.J. (10/5/19) – Head Coach Peter-John Falloon recorded his 100th career victory as the Kean University men's soccer team upended No. 17 Rowan University, 2-1 at the East Campus Field on Saturday afternoon.

Max Acosta and Jake Santos each notched a goal for the Cougars who improve to 7-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. James Schutz tallied a goal for the Profs who fall to 6-2-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the NJAC.

Kean struck first in the 37th minute as Acosta scored on a close range shot after an initial shot by Bend Alexandre was stopped and the ball rebounded back to the sophomore who put the Cougars in front, 1-0.

Kean increased their lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute when Nick Kovach played a cross over the box for Santos, who one-timed the ball past the netminder. Rowan answered with a goal on a miscue in the 72nd minute, but failed to find the equalizer in the final 18 minutes.

Acosta tallied a game-high four shots, while Alexandre, Fanor Arango, Santos and Shervand Hippolyte all recorded one shot apiece. Dillon Konzelmann made three saves in 90 minutes of work.

Last time, the Cougars beat the Profs was a 2-1 overtime victory on Oct. 21, 2011. In that contest, Alexander Fernandez scored the game-winner in the 97th minute. Sheldon Palmer assisted on the game-winner and scored the equalizer in regulation.

Coach Falloon and the Cougars will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 10th, hosting the Cougars of Medgar Evers College at 7:30 p.m.
