Cougars Extend Winning Streak to 17 Games and Remain Unbeaten in NJAC with Victory over Ramapo

UNION, N.J. (10/22/19) – Melissa Way totaled five points on two goals and one assist as the No. 10 Kean University field hockey team extended their winning streak to 17 games and remained unbeaten in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 4-1 victory over Ramapo College on Tuesday evening.

Rachel Mills tallied four points on two assists and one goal for the No. 10 Cougars who improve to 17-1 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC. Talitha Joustra scored for the Roadrunners who fall to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC.

Way and Mills connected on both first half goals as Kean held a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Cougars opened with a goal in the 10th minute as Mills passed back to

Way, who took two steps and ripped a shot for the 1-0 lead. Mills found Way again in the 24th minute, when the senior fed the ball into the junior who scored on the right side for the 2-0 lead.

Kean added two more in the second half as Peyton Mann took a Ja'Carra Jackson feed and scored into a wide open net for the 3-0 advantage in the 49th minute.
Mills would finally find the back of the cage in the 54th minute, as an Erin Donnelly shot played off Way's stick, allowing Mills to tap home the ball for the 4-0 lead.

The Cougars edged the Roadrunners on shots (16-9) and penalty corners (16-5). Way recorded a game-high six shots, while Jenna Patrone tallied four and Mills recorded three. Belly Reynoso improved to 17-1 in net and set a new single season record for goalie victories, surpassing Ashlie Berghold who posted 16 victories in 2008. Lia DiPiazza recorded two defensive saves for Kean.

Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the No. 10 Cougars will return to action in Ewing, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 26th, against the nationally ranked Lions of TCNJ at 1:00 p.m.
