HILLSIDE, N.J. (10/26/19) – Justin Homer and
Max Acosta both notched goals as the Kean University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 double overtime draw with Rutgers-Newark on Senior Day.
Rutgers-Newark (6-9-2 overall, 2-4-2 NJAC) held the 1-0 halftime lead after a goal in the 39
th minute. The Cougars (9-5-3, 3-2-3 NJAC) responded with two second half goals in just over a minutes span.
Kean tied the contest at 1-1 in the 76
th minute, when Homer notched his first career goal as
Felix Pereyra's header redirected the ball towards the sophomore who scored just outside the eight yard box. The Cougars took the 2-1 lead in the 77
th minute as Acosta scored on a breakaway that deflected off the keeper's glove and rolled in.
Newark answered in the 88
th minute to send the game into extra time. The final 22 minutes saw neither team net the golden goal as the Cougars earned their third draw in NJAC play this season.
Kean edged Rutgers-Newark on shots (21-16), while the Scarlet Raiders took the advantage on corners (5-4). Acosta totaled six shots, while Nicol,
Danny Guillen,
Fanor Arango,
Calvin Carbajal all tallied two shots apiece.
Dillon Konzelmann made six saves in 90 minutes of work.
