Union, N.J. (10/9/19) – The Kean University women's soccer team picked up their fifth shutout of the season by topping Manahttanville College, 2-0 on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
In the mainly defensive matchup, the Cougars (5-6-1) were able to break through with what would be the game-winner in the 39th minute as Jenna Sheedy set up a perfect give and go straight down the middle to the birthday girl Mariaelena Torres. Torres used one move around the keeper to put Kean ahead 1-0 in the first.
The score would remain that way for much of the second half before senior Deana Abdou took advantage of a missed clear and swiped the ball for herself, firing home insurance in the 87th minute.
The Cougars out-shot Manhattanville, 13-5, while the Valiants (6-6) held a slight advantage in corner opportunities, 2-1.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Saturday when they travel to The College of New Jersey for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
