CHESTER, Pa. (11/15/19) – Jailen Jamison made a layup as time expired to erase an 18 point second-half deficit and put the Kean University men's basketball team into the Widener Tip-Off Championship game with a 48-47 victory over Moravian College on Friday evening.
Jamison finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Cougars who improve to 1-1 overall and advance to tomorrow's championship game against host Widener.
C.J. Barnes totaled 12 points for the Greyhounds who fall to 1-2 overall.
Moravian led 31-18 at intermission after Kean struggled to shoot the ball with an 18.2% field goal percentage and a 13.2% three-point percentage.
The Greyhounds opened the second half with back-to-back buckets to take their largest lead of the contest at 35-17 with 18:06 to play. Moravian maintained a 10-point advantage until just under the nine-minute mark, when the Cougars went on a 19-5 run to take a 46-44 lead with 1:34 remaining on a
Jeff Cooper triple.
Cooper and
Nate Lyles combined for 10 points during the run, while
Mario Gunn chipped in with four and
Myles Owens added three.
The Greyhounds would end up taking a 47-46 lead with 10 seconds to play, before Jamison converted on the coast-to-coast layup as time expired to help Kean earn their first victory of the season.
Kean shot 50.0% and held Moravian to 19.4% shooting from the field in the second half.
Cooper led all scorers with 13 points, while Gunn added 10 rebounds and eight points.
