CHESTER, Pa. (11/16/19) – Jeff Cooper finished with a career-high 21 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Kean University men's basketball team fell to the host Widener University, 72-62 in the finals of their Autism Awareness Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.
Elijah Boyd led four starters in double figures with 16 points as the Pride improve to 4-0 overall.
Myles Owens also tallied a career-high with 17 points for the Cougars who fall to 1-2 overall.
Kean played even with Widener for the first 10 minutes, before a 9-0 run gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game at 27-20 with 4:12 to play. The Pride responded with an 11-4 run over the final 3:19 of the opening half to hold a 31-29 lead at the break.
The second half saw Kean stay within striking distance as the lead never got bigger than five. The Cougars took a 58-55 advantage with 6:16 to play on a Cooper layup and an Owens triple. Widener closed the contest on a 17-7 run over the final 6:29 to give the Pride a 10-point victory.
Mario Gunn totaled 13 rebounds and six points, while
Nate Lyles totaled 11 rebounds and seven points.
