HOBOKEN, N.J. (11/20/19) – A 27-8 run over a 6:34 span of the second half downed the Kean University Men's Basketball team to Stevens Institute of Technology, 78-63 on Wednesday evening.
Spencer Cook totaled 20 points for the Ducks who improve to 3-0 overall.
Jeff Cooper and
Jared Latane both tallied 11 points for the Cougars who fall to 1-3 overall.
The opening stanza saw neither side hold larger than a four-point advantage. Stevens sank a layup with nine seconds remaining before Latane knocked down a triple at the buzzer to give Kean a 28-27 advantage at halftime.
The second half continued the back and forth trend with the Cougars holding a 44-42 lead with 13:25 remaining on back-to-back layups in the paint from
Mario Gunn and
Jailen Jamison.
The Ducks attempted to breakaway with a mini 8-0 run to take a 52-44 lead. Kean put together an 8-3 run of their own to cut the Stevens lead to 55-52 with 9:08 to play on back-to-back triples from Latane and
Myles Owens.
The Ducks would break the game wide open with a 16-0 run over the next 2:59 to take their largest lead of the game at 71-52 with 5:35 remaining.
Gunn totaled 10 points and seven rebounds, while Owens and Jamison each recorded nine points apiece.
Nate Lyles totaled 10 rebounds and four points in the loss.
