JERSEY CITY, N.J. (11/26/19) – A big second half run propelled New Jersey City University to a 84-55 victory over the Kean University men's basketball team in their New Jersey Athletic Conference Opener on Tuesday evening.
Denzel Banks finished with a game-high 20 points for the Gothic Knights who improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC.
Myles Owens,
Jaedan Sheehan and
Kendall Blount all tallied eight points for the Cougars who fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
Kean took an early 6-2 lead on back-to-back triples from Owens before NJCU responded with an 11-5 run to take a 13-8 advantage with just under 12 minutes to play in the opening stanza. The Cougars hung around with baskets by Sheehan and
Jailen Jamison to cut the home team advantage to 19-17 with 8:14 remaining.
NJCU answered with a 14-6 run over a 5:24 span to take a 33-21 lead with 2:57 to play. The Gothic Knights maintained the lead into the locker room with a 35-27 lead at intermission.
In the second half, NJCU broke the game open with a 40-12 run over a 12:31 span to increase their halftime lead to 73-39 with just over eight minutes to play.
Jamison added six points and four rebounds, while
Nate Lyles and
Jah'Mir Miller both tallied six rebounds and four points.
