MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (11/16/19) – Rachel Mills notched two second half goals as the Kean University field hockey team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over Endicott College on Saturday afternoon.
Peyton Mann notched the game-winner for the Cougars who improve to 19-3 overall and advance to face the host Middlebury College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
Kristen McCarthy scored for the Gulls who finish their season at 19-5 overall.
Mann put Kean on the scoreboard first in the 27
th minute as the freshman dribbled in and made a quick pass to
Bethany Garcia. Garcia made a quick pass back to her fellow classmate for the 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw the Cougars tally back-to-back goals from Mills for a 3-0 advantage in the 50
th minute. Kean increased their lead to 2-0 in the 33
rd minute as a
Melissa Way shot was tapped home by Mills. The senior collected her second goal of the afternoon as a
Jenna Patrone shot bounced off the keeper's pad directly to Mills who tapped home the close range shot with an open cage.
The Gulls edged the Cougars on shots (13-12) and penalty corners (8-7). Way tallied five shots, Mills collected three and Patrone tallied two.
Belly Reynoso was critical in the victory making six saves in 60 minutes of work.
